Planning an Extension? Why you need an Interior Designer
If you’re planning an extension you’re likely to be feeling very excited, but you may also feel a little overwhelmed and stressed by the endless decisions that need to be made and worried about making a mistake that you’ll later regret. Interior designers are trained in space planning and skilled in understanding how a space will function as well as translating how you would like that space to feel and look. By getting an interior designer involved early on, you will have expert support in getting your plans organised and ready to share with your tradespeople and will be able to enjoy the process with less stress.
Prepare Technical Plans & Specification for Trades
An interior designer will spend time understanding your requirements. They will be able to help you to analyse how you would like to use the new space and therefore what is required of the space. By preparing floor plans with furniture placement early on, your interior designer will be able to create a bespoke electrical and lighting plan for your new room making the best use of the space. These plans will be ready for you to share with your tradespeople so you are organised and prepared when you are asked “how many sockets do you need?”, “where is the lighting going?”, “how many circuits are you having and where do you want the switches?” You don’t want to be put on the spot and feel pressured to make a quick decision that you may later regret!
Connect the New Space to the Old
An interior designer will not only consider the new space but also the rest of your house to ensure that the space flows and works cohesively. How will the new extension affect the light in the remaining house and what options are there to maximise light? They will consider circulation space and how the use of the other rooms will change. They will be able to provide ideas to help the new build sit comfortably with the original build so your home feels cohesive not disjointed.
Provide Rendered 3D Visuals
Many people find it difficult to read and visualise architect floor plans. An interior designer will be able to offer you wall elevations and 3D visuals all drawn to scale to help you understand how the new room will actually look and feel. This makes decision making so much easier as you can try out different options quickly using the CAD software to change layouts, furniture, fixings, colours and design details before committing.
