Styling Tips For Autumn

October has arrived and I feel ready to embrace the darker, colder days with making home feel more cosy, warm and welcoming. It’s time to get out the slippers and find the hot water bottles!

Autumn Colour

At this time of the year look to nature to inspire your colour choices; rich reds, golds, browns and greens. Earthy hues are perfect for creating a comforting and calm environment. Use of warm tones in the home will help create a welcoming feel and are easy to live with.

The new Sweet Treats Collection by Little Greene was released in September 2023 and all of the colours are absolutely beautiful and are perfect for this season. I’ve got my eye on a couple for my own home!

Pattern

Introduce a little pattern through accessories to add interest and character. Checks, tweed and tartan are all perfect for this time of the year alongside herringbone knits.

Texture

Cosy up with lots of layers and texture in warm tones. Swap the cooler lightweight cotton and linen fabrics from summer with warmer, thicker materials such as wool, velvet and tweed. Add cushions, blankets and sheepskins to chairs, sofa’s and beds. Add heavy rugs to wooden floors and sumptuous bath mats infront of vanity units. Oliver Bonas do a small range with playful designs.

Lighting

Soft, layered lighting makes such a difference to the atmosphere of a room especially during Autumn and Winter. Turn off the big overhead lighting and create a warm, cosy and welcoming ambiance with lots of lamps, wall lights and candles.

The gentle flicker of a candle flame catches the eye and helps relax the mind and body. If you like scented candles my favourite at this time of the year is Fir Tree by The White Company
